American Revolution-

In Social Studies we are learning about Virginia's role in the American Revolution. Many Virginians helped with the war and helped the colonies earn their freedom from England. George Washington was a leader of the Continental Army, Thomas Jefferson was the author of the Declaration of Independence and Patrick Henry let his voice be heard when he stated that there should be "no taxation without representation."

Please click on the link below to find out more about the Loyalists and Patriots. After carefully reading it, take the quiz at the bottom of the link.  Loyalist or Patriot

COMMENT: After reading and taking the quiz, decide it you would have been a Loyalist, Patriot or if you would have remained neutral in the war. Why would you have taken that stance? Use complete sentences. Check spelling, capitalization, punctuation and answer with details.

  4. I would be on not ones side cause I think it is silly to have a war, cause Britain should of stopped taxing them. Just cause they do not live there. People that live there should make the rules and not people over in Britain. Its okay if they tax tea for a good price. Its was great that people took a stand i would of done the same thing if I were there.

  8. I would probably be a Patriot during the war because, if the king was taxing nearly everything I owned,I would probably be pretty mad at him. Also, I don't agree with him even though he would have been my king at the time because, he was the one that decided to pay for the war, and I don't think we should have to.

  19. Today I learned a lot about the Revolutionary War. Benedict Arnold was a member of the Continental Army until he joined with the British to become a spy. During the Revolutionary War Loyalists had a very hard time living because the Patriots were slowly winning. Abigail Adams also had a hard time during the war. The solders were hiding in her house, and training in her yard. Under those circumstances I would definitely have been a patriot because I would rather have had a separate government from England than be under the rule of England for a long amount of time.

  28. That sight is really good for reading skills, social studies skills, test skills and its fun to comment like my first comment. I learned that the Loyalists had a really hard time during the Revolutionary war. The Patriots kicked them out of Virginia. The neutrals didn't have to fight they could sit back and enjoy life with guns in the background.
